About Daniel Levitin

Daniel Joseph Levitin is an American-Canadian polymath known for his work as a cognitive psychologist, neuroscientist, writer, musician, and record producer. He is the author of four New York Times best-selling books, including This Is Your Brain on Music, which has sold more than 1.5 million copies. Levitin is a professor emeritus of psychology, behavioral neuroscience, and music at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and is the founding dean of arts and humanities at Minerva University. He also holds the position of distinguished faculty fellow at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. He directs the Laboratory for Music Perception, Cognition, and Expertise at McGill and has been involved extensively in the music industry, working as a consultant, producer, and sound designer for various artists and albums. His scientific research covers areas such as absolute pitch, music cognition, neuroanatomy, and directional statistics.
