Kamyar Cyrus Habib is an American Jesuit, lawyer, and former politician born on August 22, 1981. He served as a state legislator from 2013 to 2017 and as the 16th lieutenant governor of Washington from 2017 to 2021. During his tenure as lieutenant governor, he also served as the state's acting governor for over six months, primarily during 2019 while Governor Jay Inslee was on a presidential campaign. Habib holds the distinction of being the first Iranian American to hold statewide elected office in the United States. Fully blind since the age of eight due to cancer, Habib has had a notable career marked by his advocacy and leadership. In March 2020, he announced his intention to retire from politics at the end of his term to pursue a path within the Catholic Church as a Jesuit priest. Throughout his career, Habib has combined his legal expertise, political service, and religious vocation, exemplifying dedication to public service and spiritual calling.
