Cameron Michelle Diaz, born on August 30, 1972, in San Diego, California, is an American actress known for her work in both comedy and drama. Raised in Long Beach, she began her career in the entertainment industry by signing a modeling contract with Elite Model Management during her high school years. Diaz made her film debut at age 21 in the comedy The Mask in 1994. She gained fame with her role in the romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding in 1997 and became a prominent star after starring as the titular character in the 1998 comedy There's Something About Mary, which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination.
