Bridget Phillipson: podcast appearances and interviews

Bridget Maeve Phillipson, born on December 19, 1983, is a British politician affiliated with the Labour Party. She has served as the Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South since 2010. Phillipson was born in Gateshead and was educated at St Robert of Newminster Catholic School. She continued her studies at the University of Oxford and later worked in local government and as a manager at Wearside Women in Need. Joining the Labour Party at the age of fifteen, she was elected co-chair of Oxford University Labour Club in 2003. Her parliamentary career began with her election in 2010, and she was reelected in 2015, 2017, and 2019. During her time in Parliament, Phillipson supported Remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum and endorsed Keir Starmer during his 2020 Labour leadership campaign. She became a member of Starmer's shadow cabinet, initially as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and was promoted to Shadow Education Secretary in November 2021. Following Labour's victory in the 2024 general election, she was appointed Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities. She also stood in the 2025 deputy Labour leadership election but was defeated by Lucy Powell.
