Briana Loewinsohn: podcast appearances and interviews

Briana Loewinsohn is an artist and educator based in Oakland, California. She is a high school art teacher at Bishop O'Dowd High School and is known for her work as a cartoonist and writer. Loewinsohn gained recognition for her graphic memoirs, including Ephemera: A Memoir published in 2023 and Raised by Ghosts scheduled for 2025. She began her creative career creating minicomics in the 2000s and expanded into longer comic narratives during the COVID-19 lockdown, collaborating with fellow teacher and artist Thien Pham. Her work has received several awards and honors, notably winning the Editor's Choice Prize Nonfiction in the Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards for Ephemera. Her memoir Raised by Ghosts has garnered further acclaim, winning the Harvey Award for Best Young Adult Book, being named one of the best comics for adults by the New York Public Library, and receiving the ALA award for Outstanding Comics for Young Adults. In addition to her comics, Loewinsohn contributed to the Museum of Modern Art's Drawn to MoMA series in May of 2025. Her work combines her talents as an artist and educator, contributing to the fields of graphic storytelling and contemporary art.
