Brian McAuley, born in 1941, is an American entrepreneur known for his significant contributions to the wireless telecommunications industry. He co-founded Fleet Call in 1987, which was renamed Nextel Communications in 1993. It grew rapidly with support from Motorola before merging with Sprint Corporation in 2005 for 35 billion dollars. The merger established the combined entity as the third-largest wireless network operator in the United States. McAuley served as president and CEO of Nextel Communications for seven years and also founded NeoWorld Communications, a mobile radio systems operator based in Boston, in 1999. NeoWorld was acquired by Nextel in 2003 for 276 million dollars. Beyond his executive roles, McAuley has served as chairman of Pacific DataVision, a NASDAQ-listed mobile workforce management solutions provider, and as a director for United Rentals, Inc., a company listed on the NYSE. He is also involved in various non-profit organizations through board memberships. McAuley holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Adelphi University. Recognized for his impact on the wireless industry, he was inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame in 2015.
