About Brian Foley

William Brian Foley was a Roman Catholic priest and hymnwriter who lived from 1919 to 2000. He was educated at St Mary's College, Crosby and Upholland, and was ordained a priest in 1945. Foley served as the parish priest of Clayton Green in Chorley, Lancashire. He expressed lament over the decline of plainsong and the traditional Roman Catholic style of worship following the Second Vatican Council. In 1971, fourteen hymns written by Foley were included in the New Catholic Hymnal, reflecting his contributions to Catholic liturgical music.
