Bob Shrum: podcast appearances and interviews

Robert M. Shrum, born on July 21, 1943, is the director of the Center for the Political Future and holds the Carmen H. and Louis Warschaw Chair in Practical Politics at the University of Southern California. He is a professor of political science in the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Shrum is a former American political consultant with extensive experience working on Democratic campaigns. His roles include serving as a senior advisor to the Kerry-Edwards campaign in 2004 and to the Gore-Lieberman campaign in 2000. He authored the notable speech delivered by Ted Kennedy at the 1980 Democratic National Convention, which supported President Jimmy Carter. Known as one of the most sought-after consultants in the Democratic Party, Shrum’s career in political communication began as a speechwriter for New York Mayor John V. Lindsay from 1970 to 1971. He also served as a speechwriter for Senator George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign and was a speechwriter and press secretary for Senator Edward M. Kennedy from 1980 to 1984. Shrum worked as a political consultant until 2009. In addition to his practical political work, he authored the book No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner, published in June 2007 by Simon and Schuster.
