Bob Hoskins: podcast appearances and interviews

Robert William Hoskins was an English actor and film director born on October 26, 1942, and passed away on April 29, 2014. He was known for his intense yet sensitive portrayals of 'tough guy' characters. Hoskins began his career on stage before making his screen breakthrough in 1978 with the role of Arthur Parker in the BBC Television serial Pennies from Heaven. Over the years, he played acclaimed lead roles in numerous films, including The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Mermaids, TwentyFourSeven, Felicia's Journey, Noriega: God's Favorite, Last Orders, The Good Pope: Pope John XXIII, and Ruby Blue. His supporting roles extended across a variety of notable productions such as Pink Floyd – The Wall, The Honorary Consul, The Cotton Club, Brazil, Hook, Nixon, Enemy at the Gates, Maid in Manhattan, Mrs Henderson Presents, A Christmas Carol, Made in Dagenham, and Snow White and the Huntsman. Hoskins portrayed Mario in the 1993 film Super Mario Bros. and provided voice work for Boris Goosinov in the animated film Balto. He also directed two feature films, The Raggedy Rawney and Rainbow. Recognized for his performances, Hoskins received several awards, including the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor, and a Canadian Genie Award for Felicia's Journey. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Mona Lisa and won an International Emmy Award for Best Actor in 2009 for his appearance on the BBC One drama The Street. Hoskins retired in 2012 due to Parkinson's disease and died from pneumonia in 2014.
