About Bill Bradley
William Warren Bradley, born on July 28, 1943, is an American politician and former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association for ten seasons with the New York Knicks, winning NBA titles in 1970 and 1973. Bradley's basketball career began with a notable early talent, leading to all-county and all-state recognition in high school and securing 75 college scholarships despite attending Princeton University on a scholarship. He was a member of the 1964 Olympic basketball team that won a gold medal and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 1965 NCAA Tournament. After graduating in 1965, he attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where he played one season of professional basketball in Europe before joining the NBA. Upon retiring from basketball in 1977, he entered politics, running for and serving as a United States senator from New Jersey from 1979 to 1997. During his senate tenure, he was re-elected twice and chose not to seek a fourth term. Bradley sought the Democratic nomination for president in the 2000 election but was unsuccessful. Beyond his political career, he has authored seven non-fiction books and hosts a weekly radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio. He holds positions as a corporate director of Starbucks and a partner at the investment bank Allen & Company. He is involved with Issue One as a member of the ReFormers Caucus and its advisory board. Additionally, Bradley is a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. In 2008, he was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
