Beverly Jenkins: podcast appearances and interviews

Beverly Jenkins, born in 1951 in Detroit, is an American author renowned for her historical and contemporary romance novels. Her works often focus on 19th-century African American life, highlighting a period of history that she perceives as frequently overlooked. Jenkins's stories explore themes and characters from African American history beyond the era of slavery, which presented challenges for her to break into publishing due to uncertainties about how to categorize such narratives. Her contributions to literature have been recognized through various accolades, including a 2013 NAACP Image Award nomination. In 1999, she was voted one of the Top 50 Favorite African American Writers of the 20th Century by the African American Literature Book Club. Jenkins studied at Michigan State University, where she majored in Journalism and English Literature. She currently resides in Southeastern Michigan.
