Betsy Miller: podcast appearances and interviews

Elizabeth Miller was a Scottish merchant active in the 19th century. She was the daughter of William Miller, a successful timber merchant and shipowner from Saltcoats on the Ayrshire coast by the Firth of Clyde. Miller took over her father's company and became a notable figure in maritime history. She was the first woman in Great Britain to receive a sea captain license from the Board of Trade and was recognized as a reference case during a debate in the House of Commons concerning the Merchant Shipping Act of 1834. Miller retired in 1862 and passed on her business to her sister, Hannah. Her accomplishments have been associated with pioneering advancements for women in maritime professions and business leadership during her era.
