Ben Stokes is an English former international cricketer and associate lettings director. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, on June 4, 1991, he moved to England as a child. Stokes played for the England cricket team across all three formats and is recognized as one of England's greatest all-rounders. He made his One Day International and Twenty20 International debuts in 2011 and his Test debut in 2013. During his career, he played a key role in England’s victories in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup, often contributing crucial performances in finals, including top-scoring in the latter. In April 2022, he was appointed captain of England’s Test team, a role he held until his retirement from international cricket on June 29, 2026. Stokes is known for his prowess as a left-handed middle-order batsman and right-arm fast bowler. Notably, he holds the Test record for most runs scored in an innings at number six with 258 against South Africa during England’s 2015-16 tour and, alongside Jonny Bairstow, set the highest sixth-wicket stand in Test history at 399. His ability to clear the boundary was exemplified by setting a new record for the total number of sixes hit in a Test career with 138 before retiring. He reached his 100th Test match in a contest against India in February 2024. Throughout his career, Stokes received multiple accolades including Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World awards, the ICC Best Men's Cricketer award, and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in 2019.
