Ben Reilly, also known as the Scarlet Spider, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by writer Gerry Conway and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #149 in October 1975. Reilly is a clone of Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man, and was manufactured in a lab by Miles Warren, also known as Jackal. Initially tasked with fighting Spider-Man, Reilly became an ally and was later regarded as a brother to Peter Parker. He has adopted various identities and costumes, notably the Scarlet Spider, which features a red spandex bodysuit, a blue sleeveless hoodie emblazoned with a large spider symbol, a utility belt, and web-shooters. The character has undergone numerous resurrections within the Marvel universe, including being brought back after seemingly dying and becoming involved in storylines such as the Clone Saga and Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy. During these events, he has experienced mental instability due to his repeated deaths and resurrection, at times assuming the villainous role of the Jackal. Reilly has also traversed a path of redemption and spiritual questing, and in the process, has sacrificed himself to protect others. His enduring presence in the Marvel narrative is marked by multiple deaths and resurrections, and he is considered one of the most frequently resurrected characters in the Marvel Universe.
