Sebastiaan Rutten is a Dutch-American former mixed martial artist, kickboxer, professional wrestler, and actor. Born on February 24, 1965, he is known for his successful careers in various combat sports. As a kickboxer, Rutten competed 16 times, winning his first 14 matches by knockout, with 13 of these victories achieved in the first round. His kickboxing career included a notable fight for the European Muay Thai title in 1991. Transitioning to mixed martial arts, Rutten became the UFC Heavyweight Champion and was a three-time King of Pancrase world champion. After suffering a submission loss to Ken Shamrock in 1995, he concluded his MMA career with a 22-fight unbeaten streak, comprising 21 wins and a single draw. Rutten is recognized for popularizing the liver shot in MMA, utilizing both punches and kicks. He also competed in Japanese professional wrestling following his time in Pancrase. Post-retirement, Rutten has worked as a color commentator for organizations such as Pride and Karate Combat and appeared in numerous television shows, movies, and video games. He served as a co-host of Inside MMA from 2007 to 2016. Additionally, Rutten coaches MMA and has authored instructional materials. His achievements have been honored with induction into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2015 and the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. In 2008, Inside MMA ranked him as the fourth-greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time.
