Anjali Sharma, born in 2004, is an Australian climate activist known for her involvement in legal action concerning environmental policy. She was the lead litigant in a class action brought before the Australian Federal Court, where she sought an injunction against the Australian Government and the Minister for the Environment. The case focused on the government's failure to consider the impacts of climate change when approving a coal mining permit. Although no injunction was granted, the court established that the government has a duty of care to prevent certain environmental impacts. The government subsequently appealed this part of the ruling and was successful in the appeal. Sharma's activism has gained international recognition, as evidenced by her status as a finalist in the 2021 Children's Climate Prize, an international award based in Sweden that honors young climate activists.
