Andrew Graham Beshear, born on November 29, 1977, is an American politician and attorney serving as the 63rd governor of Kentucky since 2019. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has held the position of governor since winning the 2019 election. Prior to his tenure as governor, Beshear served as the 50th attorney general of Kentucky from 2016 to 2019. During his time as attorney general, he filed multiple lawsuits against Republican Governor Matt Bevin over various issues, including pension reform. He is the son of former Kentucky governor Steve Beshear, who served from 2007 to 2015. In the 2019 gubernatorial race, Beshear defeated Bevin by approximately 0.4 percent. He was re-elected to a second term in 2023, defeating Republican nominee Daniel Cameron by a 5 percent margin. As of 2026, Beshear and Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman are the only Democrats holding statewide office in Kentucky. He has expressed interest in running in the 2028 United States presidential election.
