Amit Shah is an alumnus who served as the former president of the Drama Society. He is currently affiliated with Virta Health. Shah is an Indian politician who has held several significant roles, including serving as the 31st Minister of Home Affairs since 2019, making him the longest-serving individual in that position in Indian history. Since July 2021, he has also been the first Minister of Co-operation. He is a member of parliament representing Gandhinagar. Shah served as the 10th president of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2014 to 2020 and has been the chairman of the National Democratic Alliance since 2014. Additionally, he was a member of the upper house of parliament, Rajya Sabha, representing Gujarat from 2017 to 2019. His political career includes serving as a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Naranpura from 2012 to 2017 and Sarkhej from 1997 to 2012. Within the Gujarat government, he held the position of minister of State for Home, Law and Justice, Prison, Border Security, Civil Defense, and several other portfolios from 2002 to 2012. During college, Shah was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He joined the BJP in 1987. Shah played a key role in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as the BJP’s in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, leading to a significant victory that elevated his national profile. Since then, he has been instrumental in organizing and expanding the party’s membership and electoral success across many states. His strategic influence has made him considered the second most powerful person in India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
