Althea Neale Gibson was an American tennis player and professional golfer known for breaking racial barriers in sports. She was among the first Black athletes to cross the color line in international tennis and achieved numerous historic milestones. In 1956, she became the first Black player to win a Grand Slam event by capturing the French Open title.
