Alexander Payne: podcast appearances and interviews

Constantine Alexander Payne, born on February 10, 1961, is an American filmmaker recognized for his satirical portrayals of contemporary American society. Payne’s career began with the direction of several short films before making his feature film debut with the black comedy Citizen Ruth in 1996. His subsequent works include the political satire Election in 1999, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and the comedy-drama About Schmidt in 2002. Payne has won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay twice, for co-writing the scripts of his directorial films Sideways in 2004 and The Descendants in 2011. He received additional Oscar nominations for Best Director for these films and for Nebraska in 2013. His more recent projects include the comedy-dramas Downsizing in 2017 and The Holdovers in 2023. As of January 2026, Payne is directing a Danish-language comedy-drama titled Somewhere Out There, demonstrating his ongoing engagement with diverse filmmaking projects.
