Alex McLean: podcast appearances and interviews

Alex McLean, born in 1975, is a British musician and researcher known for his contributions to the development of live coding as a musical practice. He is recognized for creating TidalCycles, a live-coding environment that enables programmer musicians to code efficiently and intuitively, and for coining the term Algorave with Nick Collins. McLean is an active and influential member of the live coding community; he is a co-founder of TOPLAP and a joint leader of the Live Coding Research Network. In addition to his work in live coding, he is the co-founder of the Chordpunch record label and has made notable contributions to software art. His achievements include winning the Transmediale award for software art in 2002 for forkbomb.pl, a Perl script that generates a unique image under heavy load, and co-founding the software art repository runme.org in 2003, which received an honorary mention at the Prix Ars Electronica in 2004. As a solo artist, he performs under the moniker Yaxu and is a member of bands such as Slub and Canute. He has also collaborated with Kate Sicchio on integrating live coding with live choreography. In 2016, McLean served as a sound artist in residence at the Open Data Institute within the Sound and Music embedded programme.
