Alberto Gonzales: podcast appearances and interviews

Alberto Reynaldo Gonzales, born on August 4, 1955, is an American lawyer known for his service as the 80th United States attorney general from 2005 to 2007. During his tenure, he held the highest-ranking Hispanic American position in the American federal government until 2025. Prior to his role as attorney general, Gonzales served as Texas Secretary of State, a Texas Supreme Court Justice, and White House Counsel, becoming the first Hispanic to hold the latter office. His time as attorney general was marked by controversy surrounding warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens and the legal authorization of enhanced interrogation techniques, which are broadly recognized as constituting torture. Gonzales also presided over the controversial firings of several U.S. Attorneys, leading to allegations of politicization within the department. He resigned from office in 2007 amidst calls for his removal. After leaving government service, Gonzales engaged in mediation and consulting work and taught a political science course while serving as a diversity recruiter at Texas Tech University. As of 2024, he is serving as the dean of Belmont University College of Law in Nashville, Tennessee, where he teaches National Security Law. He has also been Of Counsel at the law firm Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP, advising clients on matters related to government investigations and regulatory issues.
