Alan John McGee, born on 29 September 1960, is a Scottish businessman and music industry executive known for his significant influence in the independent music scene. He co-founded Creation Records in 1983, a label that he managed until its closure in 1999. Throughout his career, McGee has played multiple roles, including record label owner, musician, manager, and music blogger for The Guardian. He has been involved in the management and promotion of numerous influential acts such as the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Telescopes, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Momus, Oasis, and the Libertines. As a musician, he was the lead singer and guitarist for the indie pop group Biff Bang Pow! from 1983 to 1991. Following the closure of Creation Records, McGee founded the Poptones label, which he ran from 1999 until 2007.
