Alan Lightman: podcast appearances and interviews

Alan Paige Lightman is an American physicist, writer, and social entrepreneur. He has served on the faculties of Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently a professor of the practice of the humanities at MIT. Lightman is known for his work exploring the intersection of science and the humanities, particularly the dialogues among science, philosophy, and religion. He was among the first at MIT to hold a joint faculty position in both sciences and humanities. As a contributing writer for The Atlantic magazine, he has engaged a broad readership with his perspectives. Lightman also served as a member of the United Nations Scientific Advisory Board, advising on breakthroughs in science and technology as well as potential ethical and social challenges. He is the author of the international bestseller Einstein's Dreams and wrote the novel The Diagnosis, which was a finalist for the National Book Award. Additionally, he founded Harpswell, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a new generation of women leaders in Southeast Asia. Lightman hosted the public-television series Searching: Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science and has appeared in documentaries such as 306 Hollywood and A Trip to Infinity. His contributions to science, literature, and social initiatives have been recognized with six honorary doctoral degrees.
