About Al Anderson

Alan Gordon Anderson, born on July 26, 1947, is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter with a diverse career in music. In the 1960s, he was the frontman of the Connecticut-based band the Wildweeds, gaining regional recognition for their 1967 song No Good To Cry, which he wrote. Anderson served as the lead guitarist for the band NRBQ from December 1971 until December 1993, contributing to their sound over more than two decades and releasing several solo albums during this period. His session work includes playing electric guitar on Jonathan Edwards's 1973 album Have a Good Time for Me. Transitioning in the 1990s from touring musician to country music songwriter, Anderson moved to Nashville where he composed hit songs for notable artists including Carlene Carter, Vince Gill, Diamond Rio, and Trisha Yearwood. His songwriting also achieved chart success with Tim McGraw's number one hit The Cowboy in Me and various album cuts. Anderson has continued to perform and record, releasing six solo albums, the most recent being in 2012. Throughout his career, he has maintained occasional reunions with NRBQ, notably for milestone anniversary shows in 1999, 2004, and 2007. His contributions span multiple genres and roles within the music industry, underscoring a versatile and enduring presence.
