Robert Steven Adrian Belew, born December 23, 1949, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is recognized as a multi-instrumentalist, primarily known for his work as a guitarist and singer. Belew's playing style is noted for its fluidity and expressiveness, often described as resembling animal noises or mechanical rumblings. He gained widespread recognition as a member of the progressive rock band King Crimson, serving as guitarist and frontman from 1981 to 2009. Throughout his career, Belew has released nearly twenty solo albums in various styles under labels such as Island Records and Atlantic Records. He has also been a member of the band the Bears and served as the frontman of GaGa during the late 1970s and early 1980s. In addition to his band work, Belew has an extensive history as a session, guest, and touring musician, collaborating with notable artists including Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, and Nine Inch Nails.
