The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) is a nonprofit global trade association and development agency established in 1971. It represents credit unions and financial cooperatives in over 90 countries, focusing on promoting financial inclusion and access to affordable financial services for underserved populations. WOCCU advocates for fair regulation and provides technical assistance, education, and networking opportunities to empower communities through the credit union model. WOCCU operates through a three-pronged structure that includes Global Programs for financial inclusion and entrepreneurship, a trade association for legislative advocacy, and the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) which supports education and training initiatives. The organization has implemented over 300 technical assistance programs, benefiting 82,578 credit unions that serve 403 million people globally.
