What does Water Professionals International do?

Water Professionals International (WPI) is a nonprofit organization established in 1972, dedicated to the professional certification of water and wastewater operators. Headquartered in Urbandale, Iowa, WPI collaborates with state, provincial, and territorial programs to maintain high standards in water treatment safety. The organization has a strong focus on protecting public health and the environment through skilled professionals. WPI offers a globally recognized Professional Operator (PO) designation in four disciplines: water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection. This certification is available at four levels based on experience and education. WPI also partners with regulatory authorities to support operators in meeting professional standards, promoting career advancement, and ensuring competency. Additionally, WPI serves members through networking opportunities and is governed by a Board of Directors and various expert-led committees.
