The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units is an international organization established in 1995, headquartered in Ottawa, Canada. It connects over 180 national Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) to promote secure cooperation, intelligence sharing, and capacity building in the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing, and related financial crimes. The group serves as a global platform for FIUs, which are responsible for analyzing and disseminating suspicious transaction reports to law enforcement and other authorities. The primary mission of the Egmont Group is to enhance international support for governments in combating financial crimes. It achieves this by facilitating financial intelligence exchanges, improving the expertise of FIU personnel, and enabling secure communications through tools like the Egmont Secure Web. The organization also coordinates training, fosters collaboration among operational divisions, and supports global standards in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing. Membership is open to centralized national units dedicated to detecting and sharing intelligence on financial crimes.
