What does SEED School do?

The SEED School of Maryland is the only public, college-preparatory, residential boarding school in the state. Established in 2008, it serves disadvantaged, at-risk youth in grades 6 through 12. The school operates under the Maryland State Department of Education and is publicly funded, ensuring a tuition-free education for all students. Located on a secure 52-acre campus in southwest Baltimore, the school accommodates approximately 400 students and maintains a student-teacher ratio of about 10:1. The SEED School offers a unique educational model that combines rigorous academics with life skills training and residential support. Students live on campus from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, returning home on weekends. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for college, focusing on core subjects and holistic development. Admission is open to 6th and 9th graders through a public school lottery system, with applications accepted from September to March. The school aims to provide a supportive environment that empowers students to overcome barriers and succeed academically.
