What does REScoop do?

REScoop Wallonie is a federation of citizen-owned renewable energy cooperatives based in Wallonia, Belgium. It unites 20 local cooperatives with around 23,000 members who have collectively invested €31.6 million. The organization operates as a non-profit and adheres to principles of democratic control and community concern, ensuring that all cooperatives meet strict criteria for membership. The member cooperatives own and operate renewable energy installations with a total capacity of 102 MW, primarily generating electricity from wind, solar, hydro, and biomass sources. In 2024, they produced 196 million kWh of electricity, enough to power approximately 56,000 households. REScoop Wallonie also collaborates with other regional federations and promotes local ownership, profit-sharing, and community benefits through its initiatives. Members can participate by buying shares, co-owning projects, and voting on developments, fostering a strong sense of community engagement in energy production and supply.
