What does Railway do?

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) is the largest state-owned railway operator in the Middle East, established in 2006 by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. SAR was created to develop, own, and operate the Kingdom's railway networks for both passenger and freight services. Its history dates back to 1947, with the construction of the first railway line, and it has since evolved to manage modern expansions, including the North-South railway and the Haramain High-Speed Railway. SAR operates four main rail networks, focusing on freight and passenger transport. The North Train connects northern Saudi Arabia to central and eastern regions, handling minerals freight and passenger services. The Haramain High-Speed Railway provides rapid transit between the holy cities, while the Al Mashaer Al Mugadassah Metro serves pilgrims during religious events. SAR is committed to enhancing capacity, efficiency, safety, and sustainability, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to position Saudi Arabia as a regional logistics hub.
