The Climate Pledge is a corporate commitment co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in September 2019. Its goal is to accelerate the transition to a net-zero carbon economy by achieving net-zero annual carbon emissions across participating businesses by 2040, which is ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement's target. The initiative includes over 626 signatories from 49 countries, representing various sectors such as IT, professional services, and logistics, fostering collaboration and responsible change. Signatories commit to three key actions: regular reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, implementing decarbonization strategies, and neutralizing residual emissions with credible offsets. The Pledge emphasizes accountability and encourages investment in low-carbon technologies. It also drives collective progress through joint action projects and related investments, such as Amazon's $2 billion Climate Pledge Fund, which supports startups focused on sustainable innovations. The Climate Pledge operates as an advocacy platform, promoting climate solutions and carbon offsets while positioning businesses as essential players in addressing climate challenges.
