The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) is a trade association that represents the plastics manufacturing industry in the United States. Founded in 1937, it is the third largest manufacturing industry in the country, employing nearly one million workers. PLASTICS serves as the primary advocacy and educational body for the sector. The organization is structured into four industry councils that represent different segments of the plastics supply chain: Materials Suppliers, Processors, Brand Owners, and Equipment Manufacturers and Moldmakers. PLASTICS focuses on educating the industry and government, providing resources, and advocating for its members' interests. It has established important industry standards, such as the Resin Identification Code, and promotes initiatives like the Bioplastics Council and zero-waste strategies. PLASTICS also hosts NPE, one of the largest triennial trade shows for the global plastics industry, showcasing innovations and advancements in the field.
