What does Institute for Energy Research do?

IRESEN, the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies, is a Moroccan research institute established in 2011. It supports Morocco's national energy strategy through applied research and innovation in green technologies. Operating under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, IRESEN focuses on developing research infrastructure, financing collaborative innovation projects, and establishing applied research facilities in solar energy and new energy technologies. The institute is recognized as a leading network for green technology research in Africa. It emphasizes the development of next-generation solar technologies tailored to local conditions and aims to protect the local market through standardization and certification. IRESEN operates the Green Energy Park and has established 12 laboratories across Morocco, facilitating collaborative research in solar photovoltaic and thermal technologies. The institute has committed significant funding to research and development, supporting over 540 researchers and PhD students while engaging in international partnerships to enhance knowledge transfer and capacity building in the renewable energy sector.
