What does In Place of War do?

In Place of War is a global non-profit organization that leverages artistic creativity to foster positive social change in areas affected by conflict, climate change, and systemic injustice. Established in 2004 at the University of Manchester, it has grown into a significant international entity, collaborating with 130 creative organizations across 30 countries. The organization believes in the power of creativity to transform cultures of violence into hope and opportunity. In Place of War operates through three main pillars: the creation of cultural spaces, education and entrepreneurship, and artistic collaboration. It provides funding and support to build art spaces in conflict zones, offers training programs for artists to develop their careers, and facilitates connections between artists globally. The organization has made a notable impact by training over 600 participants, mobilizing more than 1,000 artists, and distributing essential creative resources to grassroots organizations. Its vision is to create lasting change through art and culture, empowering individuals and communities worldwide.
