About
Houston Dynamo Football Club is a professional soccer team based in Houston, Texas, competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) as part of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club emerged from the relocation of the San Jose Earthquakes and officially began play in 2006. The team's colors—orange, white, and "Space City" blue—reflect the Houston flag and pay tribute to the former NFL team, the Houston Oilers. The Dynamo quickly made their mark in the league, winning the MLS Cup in their inaugural season and again in 2007. They have also claimed the U.S. Open Cup twice, in 2018 and 2023, and reached the MLS Cup finals in 2011. Initially playing at Robertson Stadium, the team moved to Shell Energy Stadium in 2012, a venue designed specifically for soccer. The Houston Dynamo organization also includes the Houston Dash, Houston Dynamo 2, and various youth development programs.
