The Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA) is a nonprofit organization established in 2011. Its mission is to educate firefighters, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel, and their families about behavioral health issues such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, addictions, and suicide prevention. FBHA focuses on developing and implementing strategies for awareness, prevention, intervention, and post-crisis support, ensuring that resources are accessible and confidential. FBHA offers a variety of workshops and consulting services aimed at promoting behavioral health awareness and suicide prevention. These include programs like "An Internal Size-Up," which teaches recognition of behavioral health signs, and "Saving Those Who Save Others," focused on suicide prevention resources. The organization also provides training for medical professionals and chaplains to better understand firefighter culture and related challenges. FBHA collaborates with various partners and is recognized by the U.S. Fire Administration, contributing to a supportive network for first responders and their families.
