Enviva is the world's largest producer of industrial wood pellets, a renewable energy source aimed at helping power producers reduce their reliance on coal and other fossil fuels. Founded in 2004, Enviva's mission is to be the preferred supplier of sustainably sourced biomass for utility and industrial customers focused on lowering their carbon footprint. The company operates ten manufacturing plants across the Southeast United States, with an additional plant under construction in Alabama. Enviva sources its biomass from processed and unprocessed wood residues, including chips, bark, and sawdust. The wood pellets produced are used in power generation, industrial processes, and advanced biofuels. Enviva exports its products globally, serving customers primarily in the United Kingdom, European Union, Japan, and South Korea through long-term contracts. In 2022, Enviva shipped 6.2 million metric tons of wood pellets and aims to double its output by 2027.
