What does Destination Crenshaw do?

Destination Crenshaw is a community-led non-profit organization focused on revitalizing and culturally preserving South Los Angeles, particularly along Crenshaw Boulevard. Established in May 2017, it is recognized as the largest Black public art project in the United States. The organization aims to create a vibrant cultural enclave that celebrates the contributions of Black Los Angeles through various initiatives. One of its key projects is a 1.3-mile outdoor art and cultural experience that transforms Crenshaw Boulevard into an open-air street museum. Destination Crenshaw also supports over 100 Black artists through a public art commissioning pipeline, enhancing the visual landscape while providing economic opportunities. The organization is committed to community placekeeping, which includes planting 800 new trees, investing in local businesses, and creating community spaces for gathering and education. With a focus on cultural programming, it aims to celebrate the rich history of Black activism in Los Angeles and foster community pride.
