What is Southern Soul? Southern Soul is a multi-billion dollar thriving American music genre rooted in the cultural traditions of the Southern United States. Emerging from the legacy of soul/blues artist of the 1950 and 1960. It is a fusion of Gospel vocal traditions, rhythm & Blues, Blues storytelling and Southern church musical structure. In the 1990 and 2000 Southern Soul evolved into a distinct contemporary genre combining Blues grooves, Soul vocals, Funk rhythms and Southern storytelling. Southern Soul represents a multi-generational cultural movement strong in the Southern United States, Annual Festivals and touring circuits attract thousands of fans routinely sell out venues, (Regional theaters, Trail rides, Festivals, Casinos, clubs & outdoor venues), which contribute millions to regional touring economies across the Southern United States. Modern Southern Soul collectively generate tens of millions of music and Social media streams annually and a viral national line dance trend. Some artists have chart topping songs, (803Fresh-Boots On The Ground, Tonio Armani-Cowgirl Trailride) and have appeared on national TV shows such as Good Morning America, BET Awards & Jimmy Fallon-Nellie "Tiger" Travis. SOUTHERN SOUL BREAKOUT is hosted by 2026 National Black radio Hall Of Fame inductee, Global Music Award Southern Soul recording artist, DJ, TV and radio personality ANGEL FAYE RUSSELL, playing the best of Southern Soul music. The show gives tidbits about the genre, plays music not generally heard on terrestrial radio and advocates for female Southern Soul artist who are not receiving recognition in comparison to their male counterparts.
