About this podcast

The first part of Pelle Erobreren (Pelle the Conqueror), published in 1906, introduced readers to Martin Andersen Nexo, an author who was largely unknown at the time, even in Denmark. Born in 1869 in one of Copenhagens poorest districts, Nexos formative years were spent on the idyllic island of Bornholm, where he worked as a shoemakers apprentice—just like his character Pelle in the book.
