Gerard James Butler, born on 13 November 1969, is a Scottish actor and film producer. He initially studied law before pursuing an acting career in the mid-1990s, beginning with small roles in productions such as Mrs Brown, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Tale of the Mummy. His early film appearances included playing Count Dracula in Dracula 2000 and Attila the Hun in the miniseries Attila. Additionally, he appeared in films like Reign of Fire, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, and Timeline, and starred as Erik, The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher. Butler gained broader recognition for his role as King Leonidas in Zack Snyder's 300 released in 2006. In 2010, he started voicing characters in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. Throughout the 2010s, he became known for his portrayal of Secret Service agent Mike Banning in the Has Fallen film series, as well as for roles such as Tullus Aufidius in Coriolanus and Sam Childers in Machine Gun Preacher.
