About
Spread the Word Nevada is a nonprofit organization established in 2001, focused on improving early childhood literacy in Nevada's low-income and at-risk communities. Founded by former educators Laurie Hartig and Lisa Habighorst, the organization has become the largest children's literacy nonprofit in the state, serving over 1.5 million children and distributing more than 8 million books. It operates in areas like Clark, Washoe, and Elko Counties, adopting 81 elementary schools to enhance literacy. The organization offers various programs aimed at fostering reading and language development. Its flagship program, Kids to Kids, provides monthly book selections for children to build home libraries. Spread the Word Nevada relies on donations and volunteer support to continue its mission of changing lives through literacy.
