Laura Owens: podcast appearances and interviews

Laura Owens, born in 1970, is an American painter, gallery owner, and educator who emerged from the Los Angeles art scene in the late 1990s. She is recognized for her large-scale paintings that incorporate a variety of art historical references and painterly techniques. Owens has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions worldwide, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in 2003, and her work has been displayed at prominent institutions such as the Kunsthalle Zürich, the Aspen Art Museum, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. In 2013, she transformed her studio workspace into an exhibition space called 356 Mission in collaboration with Gavin Brown and Wendy Yao; this space operated until 2019 when the lease ended. Owens’s mid-career survey was held at the Whitney Museum of American Art from November 2017 to February 2018, highlighting her significance within contemporary art. She resides and works in Los Angeles, California.
