Her most significant achievement came with her recording of Stephen Sondheim's Send in the Clowns from her tenth album Judith in 1975. Collins has received multiple Grammy nominations and her 2017 rendition of Amazing Grace was preserved in the National Recording Registry. In 2019, she scored her first No. 1 album on an American Billboard chart with Winter Stories. In 2022, she released Spellbound, her first album of all original material, which also garnered another Grammy nomination.
