Judith Marjorie Collins, born on May 1, 1939, is an American singer-songwriter and musician with a career spanning nearly seven decades. She has released a diverse discography that includes 36 studio albums, nine live albums, four holiday albums, and numerous compilations and singles. Collins is recognized for her eclectic repertoire, which encompasses folk, country, show tunes, pop, rock and roll, and standards. Her vocal clarity and social activism have also contributed to her prominence in the music industry. Collins' career began with her debut album, A Maid of Constant Sorrow, in 1961. She gained international prominence with her rendition of Both Sides, Now, which reached No. 8 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Folk Performance. Her success continued with recordings of songs such as Someday Soon, Chelsea Morning, and Amazing Grace. Her most significant achievement came with her recording of Stephen Sondheim's Send in the Clowns from her tenth album Judith in 1975. The single reached No. 36, and the album achieved Gold and later Platinum certification. Collins has received multiple Grammy nominations and her 2017 rendition of Amazing Grace was preserved in the National Recording Registry. In 2019, she scored her first No. 1 album on an American Billboard chart with Winter Stories. In 2022, she released Spellbound, her first album of all original material, which also garnered another Grammy nomination.
