The Third Place is a Black-led nonprofit organization based in Maine dedicated to enhancing social, career, and economic opportunities for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and underrepresented communities. The organization emphasizes equity, collaboration, and community-led change through its SHIFT Maine initiative, which connects professionals, entrepreneurs, and students across various sectors, including STEM, Arts & Culture, and Health & Wellness. The Third Place offers several programs, such as the Maine Black Excellence Awards, which celebrate achievements within Black communities, and Juneteenth Maine celebrations that honor cultural milestones. It also hosts regional BIPOC networking events to foster visibility and connections among underrepresented groups. Additionally, the BIPOC Arts Collective in Lewiston serves as a hub for creative expression and economic opportunities, promoting inclusivity in the arts.
