Screen4Care is a European research project launched on October 1, 2021, with a budget of €25 million, coordinated by the University of Ferrara and led in partnership with Pfizer. The initiative aims to accelerate the diagnosis of rare diseases, particularly those with genetic origins that affect children, through genetic newborn screening and innovative digital technologies. The project employs a dual strategy that includes advanced genomic technologies for early detection and digital solutions to identify at-risk patients. Key components include the Screen4Care Meta-Symptom Checker, which uses machine learning to predict rare disease risks, and the Screen4Care Virtual Clinic, an app that connects patients, families, and healthcare providers to support the diagnostic journey. With a consortium of 21 academic partners, nine industrial partners, and patient representatives, Screen4Care promotes collaboration and data exchange to enhance decision-making and optimize healthcare resources in the rare disease community.
