Plant-Based Institute
About
The Research Institute for Plant-Based Nutrition (IFPE) is a non-profit organization based in Giessen, Germany. Established in mid-2020, it focuses on scientific research and consulting related to plant-based diets, including vegetarian and vegan nutrition. The institute aims to promote health through evidence-based concepts of sustainable nutrition, examining nutrient adequacy and ecological impacts. IFPE conducts various research projects, including the COPLANT study, which is the largest cohort study on plant-based diets in German-speaking countries. The institute also offers consulting services and educational programs through the IFPE Academy, hosting seminars on critical nutrients in vegan diets and the health implications of plant-based meat alternatives. Additionally, IFPE collaborates on developing digital tools like the VEGANScreener, a web-based diet quality screener for vegans, to assess nutritional adequacy and risks. The institute partners with academic and governmental organizations to advance its research and outreach efforts.
