The NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) is a multi-sovereign venture capital fund supported by 24 NATO Allied nations, with over €1 billion allocated to invest in deep tech startups and venture capital funds. Established as part of NATO’s 2030 initiative, NIF aims to bridge the gap between lab development and market readiness for dual-use emerging technologies that address defence, security, and resilience challenges. NIF operates independently and focuses on long-term deep tech development, empowering founders in science and engineering. The fund leads initial investments of up to €15 million per round and collaborates with portfolio companies, other venture capitalists, and NATO-affiliated test centres. Its investment areas include artificial intelligence, autonomy, biotechnology, quantum technologies, space, novel materials, and energy. NIF also provides support through advisory services and training, enhancing the growth of innovations that contribute to Alliance security and resilience.
